Brockton, Mass.- A four-run seventh inning wasn't enough to keep the Atlantic City Surf from dropping back-to-back games in a 5-4 loss to the Brockton Rox in front of 2,840 fans Sunday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium.

The two teams played five and a half scoreless innings before Surf starter Adam Cox loaded the bases in the bottom of the 6th. Brockton's Francisco Lebron gave the Rox a 1-0 lead with an RBI single and Mike Torres added a sacrifice fly. Atlantic City entered the top of the seventh frame down two runs. The Surf would respond with a four-run outburst courtesy of a 2-run single from first baseman Joe Burke and a 2-run homer from outfielder Josh Burrus, all off of Brockton ace John Kelly.

Kelly would last six and two thirds innings (six scoreless) before surrendering the four runs, all unearned. The righthander struck out five.

Brockton would answer the Surf rally with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Both Lebron and Melvin Falu picked up RBI singles, one coming off Kyle George and the other on reliever Walker Whitley.

The Surf failed to get on the board their last two trips to the plate as Brockton's James Baker and closer Jerry Dunn combined to hold Atlantic City scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings. Dunn (1-0) picked up the win.

Surf reliever Derek Duclos walked Jud Thigpen to start the bottom of the 9th. Francisco Lebron followed with a 1-6 fielder's choice but a throw from shortstop Anthony Granato sailed and sent Lebron up to second. Duclos (0-2) took the loss, eventually giving up the winning run when Mike Torres grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Lebron with one out.

The Surf (12-11) have now dropped three of their last four games and now sit five games behind the Quebec Capitales for first place in the CanAm League. Atlantic City takes the day off Monday before heading to Northern New Jersey for a three-game series with the New Jersey Jackals. Righthander Rory Shortell (0-0) will start for the Surf. First pitch Tuesday night is 7:05.
