LAKE CHARLES – The Louisiana Swashbucklers indoor football team announced today they will conduct open tryouts on Saturday, December 13th, beginning 9:00 AM at Cowboy Stadium on the campus of McNeese State University. All former college and high school athletes are welcome to attend.

Head coach Darnell Lee and his staff will be looking at local talent to fill a few holes following the two-time defending champion Swashbuckler’s perfect 16-0 season that once again ended with an Intense League trophy in July.

“We have basically had a veteran squad the last three seasons, which has helped us grow the program to where it is today”, says Lee, whose team also won a championship after 2007’s 15-1 campaign.  “We need to add some new blood committed to continuing that success”.

The Swashbuckler’s have seen that success from using talent from McNeese State and neighboring Louisiana universities, as well as local products Phillip O’Neal, (RB/LB- Lake Charles), and last season new comers Alvin Bartie, (QB- Lake Charles), and Brandon Thomas,(DB-Carencro).

This offseason the Bucs joined the newly formed Southern Indoor Football League, which is scheduled to kick off its inaugural season in April of 2009.

This year’s tryout will be held on the brand new turf surface of Cowboy Stadium at McNeese State University, which team officials feel will give coaches a true feeling of the participating athlete’s potential. “Being that we play all our games on turf, this will give us a true measuring stick of these players skills and abilities that natural grass just can’t give us”, remarked Swashbuckler’s GM Richard Dow.”We truly appreciate the relationship with McNeese that we have been able to create. The athletes, coaches and facility managers really give us an advantage on and off the field”
Fee for the tryout is $35. Registration begins at 8:30. Players are urged to participate in shorts and turf shoes.

For information on Swashbucklers indoor football, call the team office Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at 310-PASS (7277) or visit our website at www.labucs.com.
