(Montclair) - Two wild pitches and an error in the bottom of the eighth allowed New Jersey to break a 4-4 tie, as they plated two runs in the inning to win 6-4 and win the rubber game of a three game series. The Can-Am League affair Sunday night at Yogi Berra Stadium is the last time these two teams will square off in the regular season.

The Jackals struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning off of Surf starter Brian Rodaway (9-7). SS Bryant Nelson singled with one out, and advanced to second on a Rodaway throwing error. 1B Juan Tejeda then singled, moving Nelson to third. With two outs, the C Matt Lauderdale walked, which loaded the bases. 3B Chris Kelly then delivered the big blow, a two out singled that plated two runs to give the Jackals the early 2-0 lead.

Atlantic City responded with two runs in the top off the third off of Jackals pitcher Isaac Pavlik (8-4). C William Plaza doubled with one out, and was followed up by a walk from the 2B Brad Thoma. SS Anthony Granato then singled, scoring Plaza and moving Thoma to third. Thoma would later steal home, tying the game at two apiece.

New Jersey regained the lead with two more runs in the fifth. Nelson reached on a 3B Gil Zayas error with one out, and scored on a Tejeda triple. LF Luke Allen then flied out to right, which brought in Tejeda.

Showing resilience, Atlantic City again tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh. 1B Eddie Kim led off with a walk, followed by a Plaza single. Thoma then doubled with one out, scoring Kim and moving Plaza to third. The catcher would later score on a Granato sac fly.

The final two runs came in the bottom of the eight. Walker Whitley (2-2) came in for relief of Rodaway. RF Billy Kovatch reached on an error with one out, the third Surf error of the evening, and sixth in the past two nights. Kovatch then stole second to move into scoring position, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Tom Murphy then singled scoring the first Jackal?s run. Murphy then stole second, and moved to third on another wild pitch. 2B Marcus Sanders, who went 5-for-5 last night, delivered the insurance run, after scoring Murphy with an RBI single.

Rodaway earned a no decision, working six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. DH Clyde Williams and Plaza each had multi-hit games, with Williams recording three hits on the evening. With Quebec?s 6-4 loss to Ottawa, Atlantic City remains just one game back of first place. The Surf will return home Tuesday for a three game home series with the Brockton Rox.
