The Sioux Falls Canaries broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs 4-2 and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five championship series. Canaries CF Kennard Bibbs and 3B Grant Richardson went a combined 4-for-7 at the plate and scored all four runs. American Association Player of the Year Beau Torbert chipped in with a two-hit night and drove in three of the Sioux Falls runs. Canaries starting pitcher Pat Mahomes picked up his second win in the postseason going eight strong innings allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Sioux Falls closer Kris Regas hurled a scoreless ninth inning and notched his third save. Game two of the American Association Championship Series is slated for Tuesday at 12:05 PM. Sioux Falls will send Ryan Ford to the hill while the AirHogs counter with Aaron Jenkins.
